New Mexico Basketball Is Back Home and Better Than Ever

In a program that has been regularly ranked since the 2009-14 season, the New Mexico Lobos are finally back home and better than ever. The Lobos have won 14 of their last 16 games and cover odds of 11-5.

This year’s team is loaded with talent and has a strong homecourt advantage. UNM has played 14 of its last 15 games at home. It also has pressure defense and a solid defense against turnovers.

After a slow start, New Mexico turned things around with a three-game winning streak. The Lobos are 2-1 in the Mountain West. They also beat Hawaii and Oklahoma State in the NIT. However, they have lost to Fresno State and Wyoming.

The Lobos have averaged just over nine points per game this season. But they have one of the best shooting duos in the country with Jamal Mashburn and Jaelen House. Both players have shot 80 percent from the free throw line this year.

After a slow start, New Mexico rallied for a 52-45 lead midway through the second half. In the final four minutes of regulation, New Mexico was locked down by Fresno State. The Bulldogs outscored the Lobos 21-8.

While UNM was unable to get a win over Nevada, it was able to cover its odds with a 77-57 win over San Jose State. There are only nine returnees on the roster.

The Lobos have only been to the NAIA Basketball tournament once. But they have appeared in 19 National Invitation Tournaments.
