UFC Fight Night: Lewis Vs Spivac Results
The UFC returns to the APEX in Las Vegas for a special late night attraction. Former title challenger Derrick Lewis will clash with Top 15 contender Serghei Spivac.
The heavyweight main event is a rescheduled bout that was originally slated to take place in Nov. 2022 before Lewis withdrew last-minute.
Derrick Lewis defeated Serghei Spivac by TKO at 2:33 of the first round
Derrick Lewis is a popular fighter who often headlines Fight Night events. He is known for his lighthearted personality and his barroom brawl approach to fighting. He has an impressive MMA record of nine wins, two losses and one no-contest in 12 fights.
The 37-year-old is the heavyweight division’s all-time leader in knockouts, with a career record of 73-9. He has never lost a UFC fight, and his career is on the rise. He has a 2-2 record in his last four UFC appearances, and is currently ranked fifth in the division.
Spivac is a hard-hitting, skilled mauler/wrestler with a solid grappling game. His best position is in the clinch, where he has a significant advantage over Lewis. He can also use his trip takedown to initiate ground and pound.
His submission percentage is also good, with a 1.7% submission average versus 0.1% for Lewis. The 28-year-old also has a 4.09 takedown average per 15 minutes, compared to the “Black Beast’s” 0.6, while his 70 takedown defense is much better than Lewis’s 55%.
He has also been successful against fighters with a higher percentage of their opponents being submitted, including Francis Ngannou (unanimous decision) and Marcin Tybura (second-round TKO).
Spivac’s submission game isn’t as dominant as his takedown defense, but he can put enough pressure on Lewis to keep him from getting up. He is more aggressive, lands more strikes and has a more consistent offense. He is also much more effective on the ground, racking up six takedowns in the first round.
Da Woon Jung defeated Devin Clark by TKO at 2:20 of the second round
The UFC is coming to Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend to host a fight night featuring five bouts. One of the highlights will be a light heavyweight fight between Da Woon Jung and Devin Clark, which will take place at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivac at the Apex in Las Vegas.
This fight will be broadcast on ESPN+, the digital and linear distributor of the UFC. The first event to air on the platform was UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Dillashaw which saw Henry Cejudo win the UFC Flyweight Championship in a first-round knockout against TJ Dillashaw.
Both fighters will be looking to get back on track after recent losses. Da-Un Jung will be hoping to bounce back from a KO loss to Dustin Jacoby in his last outing while Devin Clark will be coming off a stoppage loss to Azamat Murzakanov at UFC on ABC 2.
A lot of people are betting that Da-Un Jung will be able to come back and pick up the win in this fight. He has a 15-3-1 record and has won four of his last five outings.
The only problem here is that he hasn’t had much of a winning streak since October 2015, which may have put some people off him. Still, the South Korean banger is a fun fighter and is an aggressive operator, so he’s going to want to keep that up as he flirts with the top of the division rankings.
That being said, he’s a good athlete who has plenty of movement and wrestling skills, but his striking defense is a lowly 44% which makes him susceptible to getting hurt.
Fortunately, Da-Un Jung has been able to recover from his last defeat and should be able to beat this opponent on his terms. He’s got the height and reach to land a lot of strikes in this fight, and is an excellent finisher with a powerful kick.
While he doesn’t have the best striking defense he does a decent job of staying in front and can pick off Clark from the inside with his jabs and countershots. That’s a great way to make it hard for Clark to do anything against him, which is why we like the odds that Da-Un Jung wins this fight by TKO.
Sergey Spivac defeated Derrick Lewis by TKO at 1:20 of the third round
After suffering a third consecutive loss, two-time UFC title challenger Derrick Lewis is facing a career-defining moment. The 38-fight veteran was hoping to turn his losing streak around by defeating Sergey Spivac in the main event of UFC FIGHT NIGHT: LEWIS VS. SPIVAC at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but it wasn’t to be.
“The Black Beast” was outclassed by Spivac in the first round of their fight on Saturday, a lopsided win for the Moldovan fighter. He put an end to the MMA fan favorite’s winning streak in just three minutes and three seconds of combat.
During the third round, Lewis was unable to maintain his dominant position on the mat. He landed just four of his 17 strikes, while the rest of the action was controlled by Spivac. The fight ended when Spivac submitted Lewis with an arm-triangle choke.
In the post-fight press conference, White said that the result was a huge turning point for both men. Lewis has been on a losing streak for two years and is in a position where he needs to end the slide.
Meanwhile, Spivac is on a three-fight winning streak and has improved his striking defense to the point that opponents are no longer able to take him down easily. He has also become a more aggressive striker and has a better understanding of how to use his takedowns in order to win the battle.
The matchup between these two heavyweights is a rebooked bout that will take place in the middle of the night, but it is one that will be closely watched by UFC fans. The bout was originally scheduled for November, but Lewis pulled out of the fight due to illness.
Spivac, who will be competing on his home soil, is a big draw and is one of the top 10 heavyweights in the UFC. He has two victories in 2022, with each of them ending in stoppages.
He is a good counter-puncher and possesses a dangerous combination of ground work and power. He has a questionable chin, though, so he will be tested in this matchup.
This is a must-see event for both of these fighters and it’s likely the best fight of the night. Both have a chance to make a splash in the heavyweight division, but the winner will be decided by their finishing ability.
In the main event, UFC knockout king Derrick Lewis will look to end a two-bout losing skid as he takes on Moldovan heavyweight Sergey Spivac. The 37-year-old is coming off a pair of knockout losses against Tai Tuivasa and Sergei Pavlovich, but he is healthy enough to return to the Octagon.
The odds favor Spivac, with him favored by -230. He has a pair of KO/TKO wins over Augusto Sakai and Greg Hardy, and he is now 5-1 overall with 3 KO/TKOs.
