There’s no doubt that the Philadelphia Eagles are one of the best teams in the NFL this season. They’ve been able to dominate the NFC for most of the year and should have no trouble taking down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
The Chiefs are a slight favorite over the Eagles, but I think this should be a close game. Mahomes is a generational talent and I believe the Eagles’ dominant edge rusher can stop him without blitzing.
Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes is a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, and he is one of the best young players in the NFL. He was the tenth pick of the 2017 draft, and he has been an important part of the Chiefs’ success since. He has also been instrumental in the team’s voter registration campaign, and he is known for his social activism.
He has won the Super Bowl once in his career, and he is poised to win another one. Mahomes is one of the few players who has a chance to go down in history as a two-time Super Bowl winner.
His ability to complete big passes is a key reason why he has been so successful as a quarterback. He has thrown for more than 300 yards in 11 of 19 games this season, including four games against quality defenses like the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers.
Mahomes is a smart and versatile passer who has the ability to make plays with his feet as well as his arm. His ability to get the ball to his wide receivers has made him a popular choice for many fantasy football fans. He has a strong rapport with Tyreek Hill and JuJu Smith-Schuster, both of whom can make big plays in the red zone.
Despite Mahomes’ impressive resume, there are still several things to watch out for in this game. First, Mahomes’ ankle injury will be an issue. Second, he will face the ferocious pass rush of the Philadelphia Eagles. This will force him to throw the ball on his first down or else he will be forced into field-goal situations.
This is a matchup between two of the top offenses in the NFL, so there should be plenty of scoring opportunities for both teams. However, the oddsmakers have given the Eagles a slight edge. They have the advantage in terms of talent, but it will come down to who can make the most plays and convert them.
Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts has been one of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history. He has a long, impressive resume that started with his collegiate career at Alabama and Oklahoma. He has continued to excel through the professional ranks and into this Super Bowl.
He has the right mindset to lead his team to a championship, and that’s what makes him a great bet for Super Bowl 57. If Hurts can deliver a big game on the ground and in the passing game, it could be a very exciting Super Bowl 57 for the Eagles.
In the regular season, he had a streak of three games in which he passed for more than 240 yards. He did it in Week 3 against the Titans (243), in Week 5 against the Cardinals (339) and again in Week 13 against the Bears (380).
But he didn’t top that in his two playoff games. He went 16-of-24 for 154 yards with no touchdowns against the Giants in the NFC Divisional Round and he was 15-of-25 for 121 yards with no TDs against the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
His pass accuracy has also been very good this season, but his INTs have been a little higher than expected. He had a couple of picks in Chicago on December 18 and had a pair against the Giants in the regular-season finale.
Moreover, he has struggled against teams that defend the run well. He rushed for only 39 yards in the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers, and he didn’t go over 40 in any of his games this year.
He’s still a great dual-threat quarterback, and he should have an easier time running the ball against the Chiefs than he did against Tennessee or Chicago this season. But the Chiefs are a good team against the run and he’s going to have to be very careful with his ankle. He can’t let it get too bad, especially in the biggest game of his career.
The Eagles’ Defense
Philadelphia has one of the best defensive lines in the NFL, and it’s been bolstered by some major defensive players this offseason. With the addition of Haason Reddick, who recorded 16 sacks this season, and a strong group of edge-rushers in Javon Hargrave, Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham, Philadelphia is looking like a formidable opponent.
But the Eagles have more than a few surprises on defense this year, including a revamped front seven that will be more versatile and unpredictable than ever before. When defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon took over, he wanted to put more of a focus on different coverages and fronts. He has done so, and the results have been very good.
As a result, Philadelphia has been able to show off many different fronts and schemes in the past few weeks. They haven’t been able to do that consistently under Jim Schwartz, but Gannon has changed that.
That’s because Gannon believes that the Eagles have the type of players who can fit into multiple schemes. He added, “I feel that Howie did a great job stocking the roster with some smart, versatile players who can play a variety of roles, and they have some players who can really excel in that.”
With that said, Gannon will still want to put pressure on Mahomes at the line of scrimmage. He’ll do that by sending more rushers to disrupt Mahomes, and he’ll also hope to force a throw on third downs instead of letting Mahomes get to his feet and pick apart the defense.
And he’ll do that with a linebacker corps that is deep, talented and highly versatile. The Eagles have a slew of talented young linebackers who will be ready to step up this week, including Tremaine Edmunds, Nick Bolton and Willie Gay.
In addition to a strong defense, Philadelphia also has a solid special teams unit that will be critical for the Eagles to win on Super Bowl Sunday. They have an excellent punter in Arryn Siposs and a solid kicker in Justin Tucker.
As for the offense, Jalen Hurts looks a bit off after recovering from a shoulder injury, but it shouldn’t stop the Eagles from winning on Super Bowl Sunday. They may not score 30 points, but they will be able to grind the Chiefs into oblivion with their tough ground game.
The Chiefs’ Offense
The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best offenses in NFL history. Their passing game was the most efficient in the league this season, while their rushing attack was also among the tops. Their offense is incredibly dynamic and constantly changing based on the opponent. This allows the Chiefs to create unusual formations and challenges their opponents’ linebackers in the passing game.
The Chiefs’ offensive line has been the main source of success for Mahomes this season, and it will need to be at its best against Philadelphia’s defense in order to slow down the Eagles. During the regular season, the Chiefs’ offensive line won 65 percent of its pass blocks and had a 13.5 percent sack rate.
Their front line also has a lot of talent, including four All-Pros and three first-round picks. The front seven is one of the most consistent in the NFL and should be able to control the play with their superior movement skills.
Another important piece of the Chiefs’ offense is their reiving corps, which has been stacked with players that can win in the short area and run after the catch. As a result, the Chiefs are seeing fewer coverages than they have in years past, which means their offense will be able to use more open receivers.
If Mahomes can find Travis Kelce, Marquez Valdes-Scantlling and JuJu Smith-Schuster early and often, the Chiefs will be able to set up their defense in numerous ways. Mahomes can also throw deep to his wide receivers if the linebackers aren’t able to cover them down field, which will help the Chiefs put the ball in play more often.
This type of offense has been a big part of Mahomes’ success this season, as it can be difficult for opposing defenses to match up with these plays. When Mahomes has a good read on the play, he will be able to lead his team down the field with ease.
But if the Chiefs aren’t able to find their receivers as quickly and effectively as they have been this year, then they will face a very tough challenge on the ground. The Eagles are a great running team, and they have the ability to take advantage of the Chiefs’ lack of depth in the pass rush.
